David Datunashvili is a musician, composer from Tbilisi, Georgia. He works in the fields of electronic, ambient, experimental music. During his career he has recorded more than 10 albums and collaborated with many musicians.
His recent pop oriented solo album “6 Plus” was released in June 2020.
David Datunashvili started playing guitar in 2007 in indie-rock band Landmark. During their active years they played many concerts in Tbilisi, at various festivals and rock-bars.
In 2009 David Datunashvili and Gigi Jikia started electronic music project Okinawa Lifestyle. The Duo soon became very popular in Georgia. In 2011 their track “Levan” won best track award at Electronauts (Georgian electronic music awards). Okinawa Lifestyle has released 4 albums.
From 2012 David Datunashvili started working on his solo project and released his first album “Composure” in 2014. On this Album he tries to explore the city and integrate its everyday life to his sound, which is based on analogue synthesizers and ample guitar arrangements, alongside with original ambient elements and catchy noise experiments.
In 2014 he started to collaborate with Georgian experimental musician and sound artist Irakli Abramishvili. They released their first album “Ezoshi Avi Dzaghlia” (there is a vicious dog in the yard) in 2015. The album is characterized by minimalistic approach to the sound and contains guitar improvisations, experiments with effect pedals and field recordings. It was followed by more noise/drone oriented “Archevani / Aradani” in 2016. David and Irakli played several live shows in Georgia. In 2016 and 2017 they performed in Baku, Azerbaijan, where they played live with local band DiHaj.
In 2017 David Datunashvili and Irakli Abramishvili invited Gigi Jikia (HVL), house producer and resident DJ at club Bassiani, for collaboration. They soon founded new ambient, electronic project Masterknot and recorded debut album “9-15” in 2017. The band played live at Resident Advisor’s 24/7 live series in Tbilisi and at Frankfurt Book Fair 2018. They also performed at Paraffin Tehran's organized event in Tehran in February 2019.
